Shakespeare Goes Lebanese

Inspired by Shakespeare’s “Much Ado About Nothing”, the Caracalla Dance Theatre Group presented a colorful and dynamic spectacle from August 11-14 during the Baalbeck International Festival.

“Imara Min Hal Zaman” (Bilaylet Qamar) is a romantic comedy set in a 16th century far-away kingdom, where two lovers are torn apart by a malicious plot yet brought together in the end. The spectacle was a mixture of dance routines, songs and a lot of humor with the plot adapted by Talal Haidar and music composed by Zaki Nassif, Toufic El-Bacha and Charbel Rouhana.

Directed by Ivan Caracalla, the spectacle was a feast for the eyes due to the lavish costumes and the outstanding performances of Elie Choueri, Ghassan Saliba and Carole Smaha.

Creator of this unique dance theatre group, Abdel-Halim Caracalla exposed to the world Lebanese folklore and heritage through successful performance of his productions such as “Asdaa” (Echoes), “Hilim Laylat Sharq” (Oriental Midsummer Night’s Dream), “Elissa, Queen of Carthage” in the Arab world, Europe and the Far East.
