A dance theatre with an identity based on the blend of Middle Eastern heritage and traditions, and Western technique.
About Us
Abdel Halim Caracalla founded what would become the most prominent and professional dance theatre in the Middle East, adopting a body language based upon the Martha Graham dance disciplines integrated with distinctive Eastern traditions thus creating the unique Caracalla Dance Style.
The Caracalla Dance Theatre has performed at the most prestigious theatres of cultural capitals such as the John F. Kennedy Centre for the Performing Arts Washington DC, Carnegie Hall New York, the National Centre for the Performing Arts Beijing (NCPA), London’s Sadler’s Wells and Coliseum, Théâtre des Champs Élysées and Palais des Congrès Paris, Osaka National Theatre, Rio de Janeiro and Sao Paolo Opera Houses, Royal Opera House Muscat, Baalbeck and Beiteddine International Festivals, Frankfurt Opera House, Kuala Lumpur Grand Auditorium, as well as numerous festivals and venues in the Middle East, North Africa and Gulf States.
Since 1968 Caracalla created over twenty ballets and musicals including adaptations of Shakespeare’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream, Taming of the Shrew and Much Ado About Nothing.
Recipient of numerous acclaimed awards the Caracalla Dance Theatre captured global press recognition and collaborates with internationally renowned artists, pioneers in the world of the performing arts. The company has succeeded in establishing its own theatre in Beirut, which is home to the leading Caracalla Dance School. Caracalla also has an extensive archival research in dance, music, literature, costumes and traditions, consolidating its rich heritage as it celebrates its landmark 50th anniversary.
